The morning session, held on September 8, saw a variety of gallops ranging from short sprints to longer distance efforts, alongside gate practice sessions. Trainers and observers monitored the progress of the horses as they navigated the inner sand surface, focusing on their movement and readiness for competitive action.
Standout performances on the inner sand
In the 1200m gallops, Minari, partnered with Neeraj, showed significant promise by striding out well to finish a distance ahead of Pride’s Prince, clocking 1:19 for the full distance and 39 seconds for the final 600m. Crimson Pirate also delivered an impressive display over the same distance, covering the 1200m in 1:18 with a final 600m split of 39 seconds. Meanwhile, Avener and Dyf worked together over 1200m, finishing level in 1:22 after Avener started two lengths behind.
The 1000m work featured a strong effort from Undercover, who clocked 1:04 for the distance, finishing the final 600m in 37 seconds. Sequential also impressed in a 1000m gallop, finishing six lengths ahead of Majestic Warrior with a time of 1:05. In the shorter 800m sprints, Red Lightning moved well to record a 49-second effort, while Dreams Come True and Monterey both clocked 50 seconds and 52 seconds respectively, with the latter being pushed to finish level with Powerofattitude.
Gate practice and short-distance form
Gate practice sessions provided further insight into the readiness of the field. Queen Caroline excelled during her 1000m gate exercise, stopping the clock at 1:04, with a sharp 38-second final 600m. Rinella also showed excellent form in the gates, covering 1000m in 1:03 and finishing a distance ahead of Ashwa Gypsy, with a final 600m time of 38 seconds.
Other notable movements included Brihati, who finished well clear of Winter Sun in their 1000m gate practice, and Liban, who moved freely to clock 1:07. The 2000m work saw Duke Of Tuscany and Fynbos move freely together, recording a time of 2:26 for the full distance. These sessions serve as a vital indicator of conditioning as the horses continue their training routines.
