Shameemudheen tops the PVL season 5 auction as the highest-priced player.

The Prime Volleyball League (PVL) season 5 auction held on Monday saw a significant financial move as the Kochi Blue Spikers acquired the talented blocker Shameemudheen for a record ₹20 lakh, making him the most expensive player of the event. This strategic investment highlights the Blue Spikers' ambition to enhance their competitive edge in the upcoming season.

In contrast, the defending champions, Bengaluru Torpedoes, opted for a conservative approach by retaining their entire championship-winning roster, choosing not to make any new acquisitions. Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Defenders were active participants in the auction, securing five new players, including C.K. Muhammad Nihal for ₹19 lakh and Muhammed Iqbal for ₹4 lakh. They also added Shiva Chandel, Dhruv Chaudhari, and Ayush Chaudhary, each for ₹3 lakh, bolstering their lineup for the season ahead.

Team Acquisitions and Strategies

The Calicut Heroes made a notable impact by signing eight players, with Sameer Chaudhary being their highest purchase at ₹10 lakh. Other significant acquisitions included Suraj Chaudhary for ₹9.5 lakh and Jaskaran Singh for ₹9 lakh. The team also retained V. Sivanessan using their Right to Match (RTM) option for ₹5.75 lakh, ensuring they maintain a strong core for the upcoming matches.

Chennai Blitz also made strategic moves, bringing in Shon T. John for ₹15.5 lakh, along with Kunal Das and Mohammed Zamrud for ₹6.25 lakh and ₹4 lakh, respectively. They rounded out their roster with several players at ₹3 lakh each. The Delhi Toofans added depth to their squad by acquiring Amrinderpal Singh for ₹10 lakh and Vikas Maan for ₹8 lakh, alongside two additional players at ₹3 lakh each.

Emerging Teams and Future Prospects

The Goa Guardians made two key signings, bringing in Aman Kumar for ₹5 lakh and Rajat Kumar for ₹3 lakh. The Kochi Blue Spikers also expanded their roster with Angamuthu Ramaswamy for ₹9.5 lakh and several players at ₹3 lakh each. The Kolkata Thunderbolts secured six players, including Jasjodh Singh for ₹15.5 lakh, while the Mumbai Meteors added Prince and Mritunjoy Mahanta for ₹5.5 lakh and ₹5 lakh, respectively.

Finally, the Telugu Blackhawks, formerly known as the Hyderabad Black Hawks, made significant enhancements to their team by acquiring Tanish Choudhary for ₹14 lakh and Vinit Kumar for ₹8 lakh. They also retained Niyas Abdul Salam for ₹4 lakh using their RTM option, indicating a focused strategy to strengthen their competitive position in the league.
