India vs Uruguay Friendly Abandoned Following Lightning Delay

An international friendly match between India and Uruguay was brought to an abrupt halt on Tuesday at the Salt Lake Stadium as severe weather conditions forced play to be suspended. The encounter was locked at 1-1 when officials intervened to protect the safety of the players and spectators following a lightning alert.

The match had reached the 26-minute mark when the decision was made to clear the pitch. Although there was no rainfall at the time, the presence of lightning and thunder prompted an immediate suspension of play. Spectators were advised via public announcement to relocate to covered areas of the stadium, while both squads were directed to their respective dressing rooms until the threat passed.

Early Goals Set Fast Pace Before Weather Intervention

The match had begun with significant intensity, with both sides finding the back of the net within the opening quarter of the game. Uruguay established an early advantage in the 11th minute when star forward Darwin Nunez successfully converted a penalty kick. The spot-kick was awarded after Pramveer was ruled to have committed a foul against Federico Vinas inside the box.

India responded with resilience, managing to level the scoreline in the 22nd minute through Anirudh Thapa. The opportunity arose when Ryan Williams unleashed a strike from the edge of the penalty area. Uruguay goalkeeper Thiago Cardozo was unable to secure the initial shot, parrying the ball back into a dangerous position. Thapa reacted quickly to the rebound, slotting the ball home to ignite the atmosphere in the stadium just moments before the weather forced the suspension.
