Shreyas Iyer Century Powers India to Dominant T20I Win Over West Indies

Iyer Masterclass Secures Comfortable Chase

India opened their five-match T20I series against West Indies with a commanding eight-wicket victory at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Chasing a target of 172, the hosts relied on a spectacular unbeaten century from Shreyas Iyer, who dismantled the West Indies bowling attack to guide his side home with plenty to spare.

The chase began under pressure after India lost two early wickets, including the dismissal of Abhishek Sharma at 29 in just 2.3 overs. However, any hopes the visitors had of building on that momentum were quickly extinguished by Iyer. Playing with clinical aggression, he reached his century in just 43 balls, finding support from Ishan Kishan as the pair steered India to 172/2 and a 1-0 lead in the series.

Naman Dhir Leads Disciplined Indian Bowling Effort

Earlier in the day, India captained the toss and elected to bowl, a decision that paid dividends as the Indian bowlers maintained consistent pressure throughout the West Indies innings. While the visitors managed to post a competitive total of 171, they were unable to bat out their full quota of overs, being bowled out in 19.1 overs.

The West Indies innings was anchored by Sherfane Rutherford, who top-scored with 56 off 34 balls, and Shai Hope, who contributed a steady 52 off 37 deliveries. Despite their efforts, the middle and lower order struggled to accelerate against a disciplined Indian attack. Naman Dhir was the standout performer with the ball, claiming impressive figures of 3/31 from his four overs. His ability to break key partnerships proved vital in restricting the tourists to a total that ultimately proved insufficient against a rampant Indian batting lineup.

With Naman Dhir and Axar Patel providing crucial contributions alongside the batting heroics of Iyer, India demonstrated a clinical performance to kick off the series. The two teams will now look ahead to the remainder of the five-match contest, with India holding the early advantage.
