Bhuvneshwar Kumar Earns India Recall for New Zealand T20I Series

Veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been recalled to the Indian T20I squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand, marking his return to the international fold after an absence of nearly four years. The 36-year-old’s inclusion follows a dominant performance in the 2026 Indian Premier League, where he spearheaded the bowling charts with 28 wickets.

The selection committee has placed significant faith in the experienced campaigner, who last represented India in the shortest format against the same opposition in Napier on November 22, 2022. His return adds a wealth of experience to a pace attack that also includes Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav, and Prince Yadav.

Squad Details and Series Schedule

Shreyas Iyer will continue to captain the T20I side, with Tilak Varma serving as his vice-captain. The squad features a blend of established talent and emerging prospects, including Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The five-match T20I series is scheduled to commence on October 22 in Christchurch, with subsequent matches taking place in Wellington, Auckland, and Hamilton.

In addition to the T20I setup, the BCCI has announced the India A squad for their upcoming multi-day series against New Zealand A. Dhruv Jurel has been appointed captain for the tour, which features prominent names such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant. The inclusion of Pant is currently subject to final fitness clearance. The India A side is set to play three multi-day matches, starting October 24 in Lincoln.

The T20I squad is rounded out by spin options including Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Kuldeep Yadav, alongside all-rounders Shivam Dube, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Naman Dhir. Meanwhile, the India A squad includes Devdutt Padikkal, Ravichandran Smaran, Washington Sundar, Auqib Nabi, Akash Deep, Anshul Kamboj, Manav Suthar, Mukesh Choudhary, Sai Sudarsan, Yash Rathod, and Mukesh Kumar.
