Carneiro's Response to Mourinho and Terry
In response to the documentary, Carneiro took to social media to express her discontent, particularly targeting Terry for supporting Mourinho's narrative. "11 years on and here we are reliving the worst. Hope they made some money," she remarked on X, formerly known as Twitter. She further emphasized the importance of understanding medical protocols, stating, "It's been long enough mate," in reference to Terry's comments.
Carneiro also highlighted the ethical obligations of medical staff, sharing a statement from the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine that underscores their duty to respond to player injuries when called upon by the referee. She clarified the circumstances of the incident, asserting, "Referee Michael Oliver called us on TWICE, player Eden Hazard requested medical assistance... At that point my hands are bound as a medical professional." This statement underscores her position that she acted within the guidelines of her profession.
The Incident and Its Aftermath
The controversy erupted during a match in which Chelsea's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had already been sent off. When Carneiro and Fearn attended to Hazard, Chelsea was left with only ten players on the field. Mourinho later criticized Carneiro and Fearn, labeling them as "impulsive and naive," and suggested they lacked an understanding of the game.
Following the incident, Carneiro was removed from her first-team duties in September 2015, and Mourinho was dismissed three months later due to a poor start to the season. Carneiro subsequently filed a constructive dismissal case against Chelsea and a separate legal claim against Mourinho for alleged victimization and discrimination.
