“After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce that I need to withdraw from the Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati,” Sinner stated. He elaborated on his condition, saying, “My right knee has been bothering me, and even though we have been working hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I'm not ready to compete yet.” The 24-year-old athlete emphasized his disappointment at missing the opportunity to play in Cincinnati, a tournament he holds in high regard.
Focus on Recovery Ahead of US Open
Sinner's withdrawal from Cincinnati follows his absence from the previous week's Masters 1000 event in Toronto, highlighting a challenging period for the young champion. His last appearance on the court was at Wimbledon, where he competed for his fifth Grand Slam title. Earlier this season, Sinner participated in several Masters 1000 tournaments, including those held in Rome, Madrid, Monte Carlo, Miami, and Indian Wells, California.
As he shifts his focus to recovery, Sinner is preparing for the upcoming US Open, which is set to commence on August 30. He will be aiming to reclaim the title he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the previous year's tournament. Notably, Alcaraz, currently ranked No. 2 in the world, is also absent from the Cincinnati Open as he continues to recover from a wrist injury, further intensifying the anticipation for the US Open.
