Sarfaraz Khan takes Sai Sudharsan's place in India's Test team for the upcoming matches against Sri Lanka.

In a strategic move ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, Sarfaraz Khan has been appointed as the replacement for Sai Sudharsan, who is currently sidelined due to a right toe stress reaction. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Sunday that Sudharsan will not participate in the series as he continues his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Although he has shown considerable improvement, he has not yet fully recovered from his injury.

The BCCI's medical team is actively monitoring Sudharsan's recovery, as stated in their official communication. In light of his absence, the Men's Selection Committee has opted for Sarfaraz, who was one of the leading candidates to fill the void left by Sudharsan. Reports indicated that both Sarfaraz and Shaik Rasheed were under consideration, but the selectors ultimately favored the Mumbai batter, citing his experience at the international level as a decisive factor.

Sarfaraz Khan brings with him a wealth of experience, having played six Test matches for India, where he accumulated 371 runs at an average of 37.10, including three half-centuries. His inclusion adds depth to India's middle-order lineup as they gear up for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

The revised Indian squad for the Test series now includes Shubman Gill as captain, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain. Other notable players in the squad are Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj, among others. This decision follows India's successful completion of a three-day warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI in Colombo, where they chased down a target of 207 runs, securing a six-wicket victory.

During the warm-up match, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill set a solid foundation with a 105-run opening partnership. Jaiswal, who had previously scored a duck in the first innings, bounced back with a brisk 61 runs off 46 balls before retiring. Gill contributed 44 runs, marking his return to competitive cricket after a finger injury. Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel also made valuable contributions, scoring 28 and 17 runs, respectively. Mohammed Siraj capped off the innings with a thrilling 32 runs off just 15 balls, including three consecutive sixes.

Earlier in the match, Devdutt Padikkal's impressive unbeaten 142, along with Ravindra Jadeja's 63 and Manav Suthar's 41, helped India declare their first innings at 357 for six. This warm-up encounter provided crucial match practice for the team as they prepare for the opening Test scheduled to take place in Galle on August 15.
