Iron Mirage Maintains Unbeaten Streak in Deccan Colts Championship Victory

Iron Mirage solidified his status as a rising star on the track this Saturday, September 5, by clinching the Y. Shanker Rao Memorial Deccan Colts Championship. The Grade III event, held at the Hyderabad Race Club, served as the highlight of the day’s racing card, with the colt delivering a performance that kept his unblemished career record intact.

Trained by Prasanna Kumar and expertly ridden by jockey Akshay Kumar, the son of Dreamfield-Setareh demonstrated his class from the opening moments of the 1,600-meter race. Taking immediate control of the pace, the colt traveled with ease throughout the contest. As the field turned into the home straight, he found another gear, pulling away from his rivals to secure a comfortable win by a margin of 4-1/4 lengths. The victory marks his fourth consecutive success in as many starts.

A Dominant Day for Favourites

The championship win was the centerpiece of a day that largely favored the market leaders. Earlier in the program, the Asaf Jah VII Memorial Trophy saw Wolf Creek, also partnered by Akshay Kumar, claim victory for trainer R.H. Sequeira. The win was hard-fought, with the horse holding off Krystallos by a neck in a competitive 1,600-meter sprint.

The supporting card featured several other notable performances. In the Mega Tops Plate, Pledge, under the guidance of Antony Raj S and trainer Darius Byramji, secured a commanding win over 1,800 meters. Similarly, the Nice Fella Plate saw Love All emerge victorious, while the Hyperion Plate was taken by Equine Power. The Mount Pleasant Plate and the Tiger Tops Plate also saw favorites Yali and Aos Si respectively justify their backing, rounding out a day of consistent results for the punters at the Hyderabad track.

Championship Podium and Ownership

In the feature race, Garfunkle, ridden by Trevor, finished in second place, while Buddy and Asterion rounded out the frame in third and fourth, respectively. The victory for Iron Mirage was celebrated by his ownership group, which includes Mr. Meka Yugandhar, Capt. Jamshed J. Appoo, Mr. K. Manoj Kumar, Mr. Ashok Ranpise, and Mr. D.R. Thacker, representing DT Racing & Breeders LLP.
