The morning session provided a clear look at the fitness levels of several contenders as they prepare for future engagements. With the track conditions allowing for focused work, trainers and observers were able to gauge the progress of their charges across various distances.
Strong gallops highlight morning training
Chagall, under the guidance of Vivek, produced the most notable effort of the morning. Covering 1400m, the horse clocked 1-35, with the final 1200m in 1-19 and the 1000m in 1-5. The work was capped off with a sharp 800m in 50 seconds and a 600m split of 38 seconds, marking an excellent display of speed and stamina.
In the 800m sprints, both Mandarin Milli and Turn And Burn delivered eye-catching performances. Mandarin Milli, with a rider on board, clocked 49 seconds for the distance, covering the final 600m in 37 seconds while responding well to urgings. Similarly, Turn And Burn, partnered by P. Dhebe, also stopped the clock at 49 seconds for the 800m, with a 600m split of 37 seconds, moving in an attractive fashion throughout the gallop.
Supporting performances across the track
Several other horses showed positive signs during their morning exercise. Key West and Invictor both clocked 50 seconds for their 800m efforts, with both finishing their final 600m in 37 seconds. Meanwhile, Alexandria and Nebula moved freely over the same distance, recording times of 53 seconds.
In the longer work, Imperial Dawn and Commanchero paired up for a 1000m gallop, with Imperial Dawn finishing four lengths clear of its companion after clocking 1-7. Remarkable and Mai Tai also worked over 1400m, finishing level in 1-37, with Remarkable making up a four-length deficit during the course of the run. Other notable efforts included Caviar Queen, who was urged to a 600m time of 37 seconds, and Fourth Wing, who moved nicely to clock 38 seconds over the same distance.
