In a major upset at the Hyderabad Monsoon Races on Sunday, the 30-to-1 outsider
From the moment the gates opened, Mukesh Kumar adopted an aggressive strategy, guiding the Dali-Dangal progeny to the front of the pack. Buddy maintained a commanding pace throughout the 2,000-meter contest, refusing to relinquish the lead as the field entered the home straight. Despite a late surge from challengers Moonveil and Mahogany, Buddy held his ground to secure a convincing win.
A memorable day for connections
The victory was a triumph for owners M/s. Subodh Kumar Ananthula and Prabhakar Chowdary Tripuraneni, whose charge proved too strong for the competition on the day. The race, which serves as the highlight of the Hyderabad monsoon calendar, saw a high-quality field, but it was the unfancied runner that ultimately dictated the terms of the race.
The supporting card featured several other notable performances across the day's events. In the Delhi Race Club Trophy, Beast Master lived up to his status as the favourite, while Rani Ruckus and Perception both secured wins for trainer Robin R. Kondakalla in their respective trophy races. Other winners included One Nation in the Madras Race Club Trophy, Ayushman in the Royal Calcutta Turf Club Trophy, and Ek in the Royal Western India Turf Club Trophy. The day concluded with Dontblockmyway taking the Mysore Race Club Trophy (Div. I) after a competitive sprint.
