Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Clinch China Masters Title

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secured a hard-fought victory at the China Masters on Sunday, overcoming a slow start to defeat local favourites He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Yu. The Indian pair triumphed with a 11-21, 21-13, 21-17 scoreline, successfully reversing their fortunes after suffering final-round defeats in both 2023 and 2025.

The win marks a significant turnaround for the duo, who entered the tournament following a quarterfinal exit at the World Championships. By clinching the title, the pair claimed their 10th BWF World Tour crown, providing a timely boost to their momentum as they prepare to defend their title at the upcoming Asian Games.

Physical Resilience and Tactical Focus

Reflecting on the victory, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy attributed the success to improved physical conditioning. During a virtual interaction on Monday, he noted that the team was initially uncertain about their physical capacity throughout the week in China. However, the pair found their rhythm as the tournament progressed, with the intense competition serving as vital preparation for the final.

Tactically, the duo remained committed to their aggressive style of play. Rankireddy emphasized that they rely on a singular, high-intensity approach rather than shifting strategies mid-match. He noted that while Chinese opponents prefer a fast-paced game, the Indian pair’s focus on maintaining an attacking edge proved decisive in overcoming the home favourites.

Looking Ahead to the Asian Games

With the China Masters title secured, the focus for the pair now shifts to the Asian Games later this month. Despite being seen wearing a support belt during the post-match celebrations, Chirag Shetty moved to dismiss concerns regarding his fitness. He explained that the support has been a regular feature since an injury sustained at the All England tournament last year.

Shetty indicated that he plans to assess his physical status during a dedicated training block in December, aiming to determine if he can compete without the aid. For now, the pair remains focused on their upcoming continental title defence, buoyed by their recent success on the World Tour.
