New York Jets Expected to Remain Quiet Ahead of NFL Trade Deadline

As the November 10 NFL trade deadline approaches, the New York Jets appear set to take a more conservative approach than in previous seasons. Despite general manager Darren Mougey executing 14 player trades over the last 14 months, indications suggest the 2-5 team is leaning toward maintaining its current roster rather than initiating a significant sell-off.

Unlike last year, which saw high-profile departures like Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, the organization is not expected to pursue splashy moves. While Mougey’s track record suggests that any outcome remains possible, the current internal sentiment points toward stability as the team looks to navigate the remainder of the season.

Trade Candidates and Roster Dynamics

Speculation has swirled around star wide receiver Garrett Wilson following recent public frustrations regarding his target volume. However, reports indicate that the team has no intention of dealing the wideout. Similarly, while the emergence of running back Braelon Allen has prompted questions about Breece Hall’s future, the Jets remain committed to their primary backfield duo, viewing them as one of the league's top tandems.

Several other players have emerged as more realistic trade candidates should the team decide to make minor adjustments. Edge rusher Will McDonald IV, who has recorded 10.5 sacks in 2024 but currently serves in a part-time role, could draw interest from teams in need of pass-rushing depth. Defensive back Nahshon Wright has expressed openness to a trade after failing to see defensive snaps, while safety Andre Cisco remains a potential target for contenders seeking veteran depth. Additionally, with a surplus of five tight ends on the roster, the team could look to move a player like Jeremy Ruckert or Jelani Woods.

Balancing Future Assets and Immediate Results

A complex dynamic exists between the front office and the coaching staff. While Mougey must balance long-term asset management, head coach Aaron Glenn is focused on securing immediate victories to improve the team's standing. This tension is particularly relevant as the Jets prepare to host the Las Vegas Raiders, a game that features quarterback Geno Smith facing the team currently responsible for the majority of his salary.

The team is also working to address persistent struggles in late-game situations. Under Glenn, the Jets have been outscored 107-6 in the final two minutes of the first half over the last 24 games. To combat this, the coaching staff has increased practice time dedicated to two-minute drills. As the season progresses, the organization continues to look for ways to spark a turnaround, with Glenn occasionally drawing inspiration from his time with the Detroit Lions, who successfully rebounded from a 1-6 start in 2022 to finish with a winning record.
