Nuggets send Peyton Watson to Cavaliers as part of a four-team trade agreement.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have made a significant move in the NBA by acquiring Peyton Watson through a complex four-team trade involving the Denver Nuggets and the LA Clippers. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the deal also sees Max Strus heading to the Clippers, while the Nuggets will receive future draft picks as part of the transaction.

In addition to Watson, the Cavaliers are set to bring in Cam Whitmore from the Washington Wizards. To facilitate this acquisition, they will send Tre Mann, a 2027 second-round pick from the Clippers, and cash considerations to Washington. The Wizards, in turn, will send Julian Reese to the Nuggets, who plan to waive him from his two-way contract, as reported by Charania.

Details of the Trade

The finalized trade results in the following allocations: the Cavaliers gain Peyton Watson and Cam Whitmore, while the Clippers receive Max Strus. The Nuggets will acquire a first-round pick in 2031 and a second-round pick in 2032, both of which are linked to the Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings, respectively. The Wizards will receive Tre Mann, a second-round pick in 2027, and cash considerations as part of the deal.

Peyton Watson, who was selected late in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft, had a breakout season, averaging 14.6 points and 4.9 rebounds over 54 games. Although the Nuggets had offered him contract extensions, Watson opted to explore free agency instead. His absence from the playoffs last season was due to a hamstring injury that he sustained in February and re-aggravated in April. The Nuggets, who finished third in the Western Conference, were eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Player Movements and Impacts

Max Strus, a seasoned player with seven years of experience, has been a vital part of the Cavaliers' lineup for the past three seasons. However, he struggled with a left foot Jones fracture last season, limiting him to just 12 games and an average of 11.2 points per game. Meanwhile, Tre Mann, who was drafted 18th overall in 2021, has spent his career with the Charlotte Hornets, where he averaged 5.5 points over 53 games last season. His best performance came during the 2024-25 season, where he averaged 14.1 points per game. Mann was recently traded to the Cavaliers before being rerouted to Washington.
