As the new
Head coach
Historically, PSG has maintained an average title-winning margin of 10 points over the past five seasons. After finally achieving European success in the 2024/25 season, they followed it up with a second consecutive Champions League victory, triumphing over Arsenal in a penalty shootout in May. "Everyone thinks we can win, but that's just theory. Now we have to prove on the pitch that we're up to the task," Enrique remarked regarding their Champions League ambitions. He emphasized the difficulty of consistently winning, stating, "Historically, it's hard to find a team that wins all the time, but we're trying to be right there alongside those kinds of teams."
Strengthening the Squad
With the backing of Qatari ownership, PSG has once again bolstered their squad during the transfer window while retaining key players. Notable additions include Ferran Torres from Barcelona, who scored the winning goal for Spain in the World Cup final, and Lucas Digne, who returns to provide depth at left-back. Midfielder Vitinha expressed the team's determination, saying, "Like last year, we're still hungry for victories, trophies. It's very difficult to maintain those levels but we're still hungry and we'll be aiming to win."
Last season, PSG effectively rotated their lineup in Ligue 1 to enhance their Champions League prospects, a strategy they plan to continue. Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembele, for instance, started only 11 of their 34 league matches.
Coaching Changes in Ligue 1
Lens, who finished second to PSG last season, had a strong start but lost their coach Pierre Sage to Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Under new manager Dino Toppmoeller, Lens recently secured a victory against PSG in the Champions' Trophy, signaling their intent to compete for a top position again. Playmaker Florian Thauvin noted the positive relationship with Toppmoeller, stating, "I have a great rapport with the coach. We share the same vision of football."
This summer has seen significant managerial changes across Ligue 1, with Luis Enrique being one of the few coaches to retain his position. Other clubs have made notable changes, including Marseille, who appointed Bruno Genesio after parting ways with Habib Beye, and Lille, which welcomed Davide Ancelotti as their new head coach. Meanwhile, former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid player Filipe Luis has joined Monaco, and Liam Rosenior is looking to revive his career with Paris FC after a challenging tenure at Chelsea.
