Oklahoma City Thunder's Jalen Williams undergoes surgery for ankle and fibula injuries

Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams successfully underwent surgery on Wednesday to address a fractured left fibula and a dislocated ankle. The procedure follows the significant injuries sustained during the team's victory against the LA Clippers this past Sunday.

While the organization has confirmed the surgery was successful, the timeline for his return remains uncertain. General manager Sam Presti noted on Tuesday that the team would gain a clearer understanding of the recovery process once the operation was complete. The Thunder have stated that Williams will be reevaluated at some point before the end of the 2026-27 regular season, though medical experts generally suggest that a full recovery from such injuries requires several months of rehabilitation.

Thunder face mounting injury concerns

The loss of Williams is part of a difficult stretch for the Oklahoma City roster, which is currently managing multiple significant health setbacks. During the same contest against the Clippers, guard Cason Wallace sustained a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He is also scheduled to undergo surgery and is expected to be sidelined for several months.

These developments have left the Thunder rotation severely depleted as they continue their campaign. In addition to the long-term absences of Williams and Wallace, the team is currently managing other key personnel issues. For Wednesday's matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, the Thunder were forced to play without Chet Holmgren, who is dealing with patellar tendinitis in his right knee, and Alex Caruso, who is sidelined with a right ankle sprain.
