The win marks Marquez's seventh triumph of the 2026 season and his third career MotoGP victory at the Malaysian circuit, a venue where he had not stood on the top step of the podium since 2018. With his primary title rival, Aprilia’s Jorge Martin, sidelined for the weekend due to a broken wrist, the 33-year-old Spaniard is now perfectly positioned to clinch the world crown at the next round in Qatar.

The race began with an immediate battle between the Marquez brothers, as Marc snatched the lead from Alex Marquez heading into the first turn. While the siblings briefly exchanged positions during the opening stages, the older Marquez soon asserted his authority in the sweltering conditions, gradually pulling away from the rest of the field.
Behind the leader, Alex Marquez faced sustained pressure from Red Bull’s Pedro Acosta, who had entered the race with momentum following his sprint victory on Saturday. Acosta maintained a steady pace, trailing the brothers for much of the contest before eventually finding a way past Alex Marquez on the 10th lap. Once he moved into second, Acosta held his position to finish 4.172 seconds behind the race winner, while Alex Marquez completed the podium, crossing the line nearly six seconds adrift of his brother.
The remainder of the top five was rounded out by Marco Bezzecchi in fourth and Ai Ogura in fifth. With the victory secured, Marc Marquez now turns his attention to the Qatar Grand Prix, where he has the opportunity to seal the championship with two race weekends remaining in the campaign.
