Cristiano Ronaldo Nets 980th Career Goal in Al-Nassr Victory

Cristiano Ronaldo made a successful return to club football on Friday, finding the back of the net to help Al-Nassr secure a comfortable 3-0 victory against Diriyah in the Saudi Pro League. The strike marked the 980th goal of the veteran forward's career, providing a swift response to a turbulent international break.

The result moves the defending champions level on points with league leaders Al-Qadsiah, trailing only on goal difference after eight rounds of play. Ronaldo’s involvement came shortly after he departed the Portugal national team camp, a decision he attributed to a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus regarding his playing time during the Nations League fixtures.

Ronaldo Leads Al-Nassr to Convincing Win

The breakthrough arrived midway through the first half when Kingsley Coman unleashed a strike from outside the penalty area. Although goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah managed to block the initial effort, the ball fell kindly for Ronaldo, who converted the rebound from close range to open the scoring.

Under the guidance of manager Ange Postecoglou, Al-Nassr maintained their momentum throughout the opening period. Samu Costa doubled the advantage shortly before the halftime whistle, effectively putting the contest beyond the reach of the visitors. Coman, who had been instrumental in the opening goal, capped off the performance by netting the third goal with 13 minutes remaining on the clock.

Title Race Heats Up in Saudi Pro League

The victory keeps Al-Nassr firmly in the hunt for the league title, matching the pace set by Al-Qadsiah. Earlier in the day, the league leaders demonstrated their own attacking prowess by thrashing Al-Kholood 5-0. That match saw Tijjani Reijnders open the scoring, with Mateo Retegui and Julian Quinones also contributing to the dominant scoreline.

For Ronaldo, the goal serves as a personal milestone in a career that has seen him record 146 goals in 234 appearances for Portugal. The forward, who secured the Saudi Arabian title with Al-Nassr in May, remains a central figure for the club as they look to overcome the current goal-difference deficit and reclaim the top spot in the standings.
