Potential Deal and Valuation
The Sky News report indicates that the consortium is nearing a deal that would value Liverpool at approximately $6 billion. FSG is expected to make an official announcement regarding the investment as early as this week. This move is part of a broader trend of increasing American investment in the Premier League, which has seen a surge in financial backing from U.S. investors in recent years.
Bezos, who is 62 years old and has a net worth exceeding $280 billion according to Forbes, has previously shown interest in sports franchises, having considered bids for the NFL's Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, although he ultimately chose not to pursue those opportunities. Saverin, on the other hand, is estimated to have a fortune of around $33 billion.
FSG's Ownership Journey
Fenway Sports Group, which also owns Major League Baseball's Boston Red Sox, acquired Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million (approximately $405 million). In 2023, FSG sold a minority stake in the club to the U.S. private equity firm Dynasty Equity. Liverpool, a club with a rich history and 20 English league titles, experienced a successful season in 2024/25 under manager Arne Slot, although he was dismissed in May following a challenging campaign.
