FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The
Henry, who is entering his 11th season in the NFL and his sixth with the Patriots, has been a key target for quarterback Drake Maye, particularly in high-pressure situations. The team shared a photo of the 31-year-old Henry signing the contract on Monday morning, highlighting the significance of this extension for both the player and the franchise.
Consistent Performance and Team Impact
Throughout his tenure with the Patriots, Henry has consistently demonstrated his reliability, recording over 40 receptions in each of his five seasons with the team. This achievement marks the second-longest streak for a tight end in Patriots history, trailing only Ben Coates, who had six consecutive seasons. Last season, Henry achieved a personal best with 768 receiving yards, placing him third on the franchise's all-time list for receptions by a tight end, with a total of 259 catches.
Since beginning his career with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2016, Henry has established himself as one of the top tight ends in the league, ranking fifth in receiving touchdowns (47) and sixth in both receiving yards (5,295) and receptions (455).
Challenges Ahead for the Patriots
As the Patriots prepare for the upcoming season, Henry will be joined by 2026 third-round draft pick Eli Raridon from Notre Dame at the top of the tight end depth chart. The team had anticipated that free agent signing Julian Hill would provide a strong blocking presence alongside Henry and Raridon. However, Hill suffered a torn ACL during spring practices, sidelining him for the entire 2026 season. Undrafted free agent Tanner Arkin from Illinois is now a leading candidate to step into that role.
Head coach Mike Vrabel praised Henry's experience and instinct on the field, stating, "Anything that you ask him to do, it comes very easy and he's very instinctive and he's got a good feel for the game. Those are all positives, and I think that leads to his consistency." Reflecting on his time with the Patriots, Henry expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, "This is a place I've grown a lot. I've grown my family. I've grown through the hard years and good years. So this is a place that means a lot to me." He added, "I'm excited for what's ahead. It's a blessing to be in the position I'm in — going on Year 11."
