In a bid to ensure a smooth and successful event, the organizers have implemented a series of measures aimed at preventing similar issues. Among the upgrades, the stadium has been fortified with anti-bird systems, including the installation of double-door entry points and an automatic outer door to deter wildlife. Additionally, a non-toxic gel, imported from the United States, has been applied around the stadium's ducting to repel birds and insects. Portable devices that emit calls of predatory birds have also been introduced as a final deterrent.
SAI Executive Director Ambar Pratap Singh emphasized the importance of these improvements, stating, "The January event gave us our job cut out, so we had to improve things. We started planning in February to enhance the stadium's overall condition, as it is quite old." He highlighted that both structural and aesthetic upgrades have been made, including the refurbishment of seating and the beautification of the surrounding area, particularly a lake adjacent to the stadium.
Collaboration and Community Efforts
Singh noted that the renovations were a collaborative effort involving SAI, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), and BAI. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has expressed satisfaction with the progress made. "We have established a specialized engineering division within SAI to oversee these improvements, and the BWF is pleased with the condition of the venue," he added during a media tour of the site.
To further address concerns about stray animals, the organizers are in regular contact with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to manage the presence of stray dogs and monkeys. Reports suggest that specialists capable of mimicking langur calls will be on-site to help keep monkeys away from the venue. BAI Secretary General Sanjay Mishra confirmed these efforts, stating that the measures taken will ensure a safe environment for athletes and spectators alike.
Indian badminton star PV Sindhu praised the extensive preparations, remarking, "You can laugh at the solution, but you have to love the effort. So many people are working behind the scenes to make sure India is ready to welcome the world." She expressed excitement for the event, highlighting the unique Indian spirit of hospitality that will greet international visitors.
