Singapore Defends Modest Total to Overpower China in Qualifier B

Singapore Sets Target Despite Bowling Pressure

Singapore emerged victorious in Match 9 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Sub Regional Qualifier B, defeating China by 50 runs at the Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur. After being sent in to bat by China, Singapore managed to post a total of 139 all out in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by a brisk knock from Riaan Naik, who struck 46 runs off just 29 balls. While Naik provided the necessary momentum, the rest of the batting lineup found it difficult to build substantial partnerships. Manpreet Singh offered some resistance with 17 runs from 21 deliveries, but China's bowlers remained disciplined throughout the innings. Tian Sen Qun was the standout performer for the bowling side, claiming impressive figures of 3/23 from his three overs to keep Singapore in check.

Clinical Bowling Seals Victory for Singapore

Chasing a target of 140 for victory, China struggled to find any rhythm against a disciplined Singapore attack. Despite a steady start, the chase never gained the required momentum to challenge the target. The turning point of the second innings occurred in the 12th over when Du Jianyao fell with the team score at 47, effectively stalling any hopes of a late-order surge. Du Jianhao top-scored for China with 32 runs off 44 balls, but the lack of support from the rest of the order left them well short of the required run rate. By the time the overs expired, China had managed only 89/6. Singapore’s ability to defend a modest total highlighted their composure under pressure, with Manpreet Singh and Tian Sen Qun earning recognition for their individual contributions during the contest. The result marks a significant win for Singapore in the ongoing qualifier series.
