Abhishek Sharma has cemented his status as one of international cricket's most destructive forces, equalling the record for the most sixes hit in a calendar year by a Full Member nation batter. The left-handed opener reached the milestone of 68 sixes in 2026 during the third T20I against West Indies at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday.

By matching the benchmark set by Suryakumar Yadav in 2022, Sharma has highlighted his remarkable scoring frequency. While Yadav achieved his tally at a rate of one six every 9.13 deliveries, Sharma has been significantly more prolific, clearing the boundary once every 6.55 balls throughout the current year.

A Dominant Display of Power Hitting

The milestone was reached during a blistering knock of 69 runs from just 30 deliveries. Sharma’s innings, which included five sixes and six fours, provided the necessary momentum for India after the early loss of Sanju Samson. His aggressive partnership with Ishan Kishan helped the hosts navigate the early stages of the innings before Sharma eventually fell to a return catch from Shamar Springer.

Following his departure, India experienced a brief middle-order stutter, losing three wickets for just nine runs in the space of 10 deliveries. However, the team recovered to post a total of 223 all out. A late contribution from Prince Yadav, who struck 13 runs in the final over, ensured the hosts surpassed the 220-run mark.

This achievement adds to a growing list of power-hitting records for Sharma, who also occupies the third spot on the all-time list for a calendar year with 54 sixes in 2025. His opening partner, Ishan Kishan, also features prominently in the 2026 standings with 52 maximums, while Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan rounds out the top five with 45 sixes recorded in 2025.
