India Clinch 14-Run Victory Over West Indies to Take Series Lead

India claimed a vital 14-run victory over the West Indies in the third T20I at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, moving into a 2-1 lead in the series. In a contest where the balance between bat and ball remained delicate on a flat surface with short boundaries, the Indian bowling attack maintained their composure to restrict the visitors to 209/7 in pursuit of a 224-run target.

The result was underpinned by a disciplined performance from the Indian bowlers, who executed their plans effectively despite the absence of dew. While the West Indies batters threatened to mount a serious challenge, the Indian attack remained focused, ensuring the required run rate climbed beyond reach in the closing stages of the match.

Abhishek and Kishan Set the Tone

India’s innings was defined by a blistering second-wicket partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan. After losing Sanju Samson early, the pair combined for 108 runs in just 40 deliveries, propelling India to a formidable total. Abhishek led the charge with a dynamic 69 off 30 balls, featuring six boundaries and five sixes, while Kishan contributed a brisk 37 from 18 balls.

Despite reaching 115/1 after 8.1 overs, India’s momentum was checked by a middle-order collapse. The West Indies fought back by taking four wickets in the space of 16 balls, with Roston Chase playing a pivotal role by removing both Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer in the ninth over. Shamar Springer then accounted for Abhishek, and despite brief cameos from the lower order, India were eventually bowled out for 223.

Disciplined Bowling Secures the Result

The West Indies' chase began under pressure as Mayank Yadav consistently clocked speeds above 145 kmph, conceding only two runs in his opening over. Arshdeep Singh provided the first breakthrough by dismissing West Indies captain Shai Hope. Although Shimron Hetmyer and Kamil Pooran offered resistance with scores of 43 and 42 respectively, the Indian bowlers struck at crucial intervals to stall the visitors' progress.

Naman Dhir proved instrumental in breaking partnerships, removing both Hetmyer and Pooran, while Axar Patel claimed the wicket of Rovman Powell. As the required run rate escalated to 15 an over, the combined efforts of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep, and the rest of the attack ensured the West Indies could not bridge the gap. Arshdeep finished as the standout bowler with figures of 3/44, sealing the win for India.
