Sahibzada Farhan Appointed Pakistan T20I Captain as Salman Ali Agha Dropped

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially overhauled its T20I leadership, appointing Sahibzada Farhan as the new captain for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka. The decision sees the departure of Salman Ali Agha from the T20I captaincy, though he remains a part of the national ODI setup.

Farhan’s elevation to the leadership role follows his recent performance at the 2026 Asian Games, where he captained the national side to a silver medal. Despite a 19-run loss to India in the gold-medal match, his leadership during the tournament has been rewarded with the responsibility of guiding the T20I squad through the home series in Rawalpindi.

New Leadership and Squad Selections

The 15-member T20I squad, which will be led by Farhan, includes a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talent. The roster features Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Arafat Minhas, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Nawaz, Khawaja Nafay, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Muhammad Imran Randhawa, Naseem Shah, Razaullah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, and Sufiyan Moqim. The three T20I fixtures are scheduled to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11, and 13.

While the T20I format sees a change in command, the PCB has opted for stability in the 50-over format. Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue to lead the ODI side during the upcoming tri-series against England and Sri Lanka. Salman Ali Agha has been retained in the ODI squad, which also includes Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Haris Rauf, and Muhammad Ghazi Ghori, among others.

Upcoming White-Ball Schedule

Following the conclusion of the T20I series, Pakistan will transition into a seven-match ODI tri-series. The tournament is set to commence in Rawalpindi before shifting to Lahore for the final four matches, including the tournament final on October 31.

The ODI tri-series schedule begins with Pakistan facing Sri Lanka on October 18, followed by a clash against England on October 20. The final group stage match between Sri Lanka and England is slated for October 22 in Rawalpindi. The action then moves to Lahore, where Pakistan will play England on October 25 and Sri Lanka on October 27, with the final group encounter between Sri Lanka and England occurring on October 29.
