Priyansh Arya Remains Focused on Growth After Emerging Teams Asia Cup Snub

Delhi batter Priyansh Arya is maintaining a pragmatic approach to his career after being overlooked for the upcoming Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Despite his reputation as a destructive white-ball specialist capable of clearing the ropes with ease, the left-hander has missed out on a spot in the Tilak Varma-led squad for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place in Muscat from October 18-27.

The competition for batting positions in the current Indian setup is intense, with Arya facing stiff challenges from high-profile talents such as Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. While his omission may appear surprising given his recent form, Arya remains undeterred by the selection decision. He emphasized that he does not view himself as unlucky, instead choosing to focus on persistence and gratitude for the opportunities he does receive.

A Proven Record in White-Ball Cricket

Arya’s credentials in limited-overs cricket are statistically significant. He boasts a strike rate of 176.78 in T20s and 135.11 in List A cricket. His explosive capabilities were further highlighted during the 2026 Indian Premier League, where he represented the Punjab Kings and recorded the third-best strike rate of the tournament at 211.62, trailing only Sooryavanshi and Finn Allen.

Beyond his white-ball prowess, the Delhi batter is currently refining his game in the red-ball format. During a recent Ranji Trophy match against Gujarat, he narrowly missed a maiden double century, finishing on 199. He is currently focused on the ongoing match against Services at the Air Force Complex Ground in Palam, where he believes Delhi is well-positioned to push for an outright victory if they can secure early wickets on the final day.

Mindset and Future Ambitions

Addressing the challenges of transitioning between formats, Arya noted that success is largely a matter of mindset. He dismissed the notion of being pigeonholed as a specialist in either red-ball or white-ball cricket, arguing that such labels are external perceptions that do not impact his performance. He also highlighted the importance of red-ball cricket in developing a well-rounded skill set, suggesting that proficiency in the longer format naturally aids a player's transition to white-ball cricket.

Looking ahead, Arya is preparing for a quick turnaround as he shifts his focus to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which begins on November 14. With Delhi set to face Jammu and Kashmir in their opening fixture at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, the batter is eager to contribute to his team's success. Under the guidance of coach Vijay Dahiya, Arya remains committed to his development and the team's objective of securing outright wins throughout the domestic season.
