Srikkanth backs Dhir as new white-ball regular
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth lauded Dhir for seizing his opportunity after being brought into the side as a replacement. The former selector argued that Dhir’s immediate impact makes him difficult to omit from future ODI and T20I squads. Srikkanth noted that while Sundar has struggled with recurring injuries, Dhir has demonstrated the tactical awareness of a seasoned campaigner, specifically praising the way the youngster adjusted his pace after being struck for boundaries.
Srikkanth also used the performance to advocate for the removal of the Impact Player rule in the IPL, suggesting that the regulation has hindered the development of genuine all-rounders. He expressed confidence that Dhir would continue to thrive as a bowler, provided he is given the opportunity to bowl consistently in domestic and international cricket.
Dhir credits preparation and tactical clarity
Addressing the media after the match, Dhir clarified that his bowling ability is far from a recent development. Despite not being utilized as a bowler during the 2026 IPL season, he maintained that he has consistently worked on his craft alongside his batting. He attributed his success on debut to a disciplined approach and careful observation of his teammates, particularly Axar Patel.
Dhir explained that by watching Patel extract turn and grip from the surface, he decided to slow his pace, a tactical shift that yielded positive results. The all-rounder emphasized that he views his bowling as a core part of his game, regardless of whether he is required to bowl one over or four. With India leading the T20I series 1-0 following their 2-1 victory in the preceding ODI series, the focus now shifts to the second T20I at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi this Friday.
