Gambhir's Encouragement Ahead of Colombo Test
As India gears up for the final Test starting on Sunday, Gambhir has delivered a clear message to Kuldeep: focus on delivering his best bowling rather than chasing wickets. “Bowl your best spell, don’t be desperate for wickets,” Gambhir advised, emphasizing the importance of maintaining composure on the field. Following a convincing 165-run victory in the first Test, the team is eager to build on their success, although Kuldeep's form remains a significant concern.
While Gambhir did not confirm whether the team would maintain the same lineup for the upcoming match, he underscored the necessity of fielding a bowling attack capable of claiming 20 wickets. “We will try to field the best bowling attack that can get us 20 wickets,” he stated, indicating a strategic approach to the match in Colombo.
Decisions on Team Composition
Kuldeep's limited effectiveness in Galle has raised questions about his position in the playing XI. Although he took the wicket of Kamindu Mendis early in the first innings, he struggled to find his rhythm thereafter. Gambhir acknowledged that Kuldeep was under-bowled, but clarified that such decisions ultimately rest with captain Shubman Gill, who must assess the situation as it unfolds during the game. “It’s captain’s decision depending on what he feels right during a period,” Gambhir remarked.
With Suthar and Jadeja performing well, Kuldeep faced challenges in securing more bowling opportunities. Nevertheless, the team management is faced with a choice: retain Kuldeep for his experience or consider bringing in Saransh Jain, an off-spinner with a commendable First-Class record of 188 wickets in 54 matches for Madhya Pradesh. Despite the competition, Kuldeep's established skills and experience make him a valuable asset for the Indian squad as they look to secure another victory in Colombo.
