Desert Vipers to Open ILT20 Season 5 Against MI Emirates in Final Rematch

The fifth season of the ILT20 is set to launch with a marquee encounter, as defending champions Desert Vipers prepare to face MI Emirates in a repeat of last year’s final. The opening match is scheduled for November 21 at the Dubai International Stadium, with the first ball expected to be bowled at 6:30 pm local time.

This fixture highlights the competitive nature of the upcoming tournament, pitting the reigning titleholders against the side they overcame in the previous season's summit clash. Both franchises have bolstered their rosters significantly ahead of the new campaign, setting the stage for a high-intensity start to the competition.

Squad Reinforcements and Tournament Structure

The Desert Vipers have made aggressive moves in the transfer market, securing the services of Pakistan internationals Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Naseem Shah, and Shadab Khan. These high-profile additions join a core group of pre-auction retentions that includes Shimron Hetmyer, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, and Dan Lawrence. Their opponents, MI Emirates, are equally well-equipped, boasting a leadership group featuring Rashid Khan, Nicholas Pooran, and Romario Shepherd, alongside new acquisitions such as Jonny Bairstow, Kusal Perera, and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

The tournament format will see all six participating teams compete in a 34-match schedule, with each side playing 10 group-stage games. The top four teams will progress to the playoff stage, which will ultimately determine the finalists. The season is slated to conclude with the championship match on December 20 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Venues across the United Arab Emirates will host the action, with Dubai serving as the primary hub for 15 matches. The Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi is scheduled to host 11 fixtures, while the Sharjah Cricket Stadium will stage eight. The schedule also includes six days of double-header action, ensuring a packed calendar for cricket fans throughout the month-long tournament.
