Mohammed Ashfaq Sets New U20 National 400m Record at World Athletics Championships - Watch Now

In a remarkable display of athletic prowess, Mohammed Ashfaq shattered the U20 national record in the men's 400m event during the second day of the World Athletics U20 Championships. The 19-year-old athlete clocked an impressive time of 45.81 seconds, securing a second-place finish in the first round heat 5, just behind the USA's Jayden DeLeon, who finished in 45.63 seconds. This performance not only propelled Ashfaq into the semifinals but also surpassed his previous national record of 46.05 seconds, which he set earlier this season in April. Unfortunately, his compatriot Piyush Raj was unable to advance, finishing fifth in Heat 6 with a time of 47.78 seconds, placing him 35th overall.

In the women's discus throw finals, Amanat Kamboj showcased her talent by achieving a personal best of 53.24 meters, which earned her a sixth-place finish. The 18-year-old athlete's performance was commendable, although it fell short of the podium. The gold medal was claimed by China's Su Yixin, who threw an impressive 61.06 meters. The silver went to the USA's Jaslene Massey with a throw of 58.41 meters, while Cyprus's Marina Hadjicosta secured the bronze with a distance of 54.88 meters.

In other events, Basant qualified for the finals in the men's high jump, finishing fifth in the qualification round Group A with a best clearance of 2.14 meters, placing him 11th overall. However, K Ambriesh struggled in his attempts, clearing only 2.05 meters, which left him in 12th place in Group B and 24th overall after failing to clear 2.10 meters in three attempts. Meanwhile, Anshu's hopes of reaching the women's shot put final were dashed as she finished ninth in her qualification group with a throw of 15.24 meters, placing her 14th overall.

Tanu Chaudhary also faced disappointment, finishing fifth in her heat of the women's 400m hurdles and 33rd overall with a time of 1:00.03 seconds, which did not qualify her for the semifinals. In the men's 400m hurdles, Amit Kumar finished last in his heat, clocking 54.01 seconds. Additionally, both P Royshan and Dhanush Raj were unable to qualify for the men's triple jump final, finishing 25th and 34th overall with jumps of 15.20 meters and 14.71 meters, respectively.
