Ramraj Breaks Historic National Record
The 28-year-old from Coimbatore finished behind gold medallist Mariam Kareem of the UAE, who set a new Games record of 54.31 seconds, and silver medallist Adelina Zems of Kazakhstan, who finished in 54.58 seconds. This medal marks Ramraj's second of the tournament, having already contributed to the silver-winning 4x400m mixed relay team. Reflecting on her achievement, Ramraj noted that her focus was primarily on her timing, following instructions from her coach, Nehpal Singh Rathore, to maintain intensity through the final stages of the race. Anu Raghavan, also representing India, finished fifth in the same event with a personal best of 55.88 seconds.
Sable Misses Podium in Steeplechase
In the men's 3000m steeplechase, defending champion Avinash Sable was unable to retain his title. Despite recording a season's best time of 8:21.67, the 32-year-old finished in fourth place. The event was dominated by Japanese runners, with Ryuji Miura winning gold in a Games record time of 8:17.36, followed by Ryoma Aoki, who took silver in 8:17.60. Qatar's Zakaria Elahlaami secured the bronze medal with a time of 8:18.13.
Elsewhere on the track, Santosh Kumar Tamilarasan placed seventh in the men's 400m hurdles final with a time of 49.95 seconds. In the field events, Seema Kaliramna narrowly missed a medal in the women's discus throw. Despite achieving a personal best effort of 59.88m during her fifth attempt, she finished fourth, as the three podium finishers all recorded throws exceeding 60m.
