Officials from the ministry emphasized that while they have received numerous appeals from parents and athletes advocating for inclusion, the selection process must adhere strictly to the criteria laid out by the government. “There is significant pressure from various sources to include additional sportspersons. Many parents reach out, insisting their child deserves a chance. However, our position is clear: only those who meet the selection criteria will be considered,” a ministry source stated on Monday. They further illustrated the rationale behind their decisions, questioning how an athlete who runs the 100 meters in 15 seconds could be sent to compete when the qualifying time is 10 seconds.

This initiative will feature prominent athletes, including Manika Batra, Deepa Karmakar, Saina Nehwal, Gagan Narang, and P.R. Sreejesh, who will share their personal journeys, challenges, and experiences in sports with young audiences across more than 1,500 locations, including prestigious institutions like IITs and IIMs. This program aims to inspire the next generation of athletes and promote sports culture throughout the country.
