PGTI announces the Race to the DP World India Championship.

The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has partnered with DP World to unveil the Race to DP World India Championship, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the structure of the Indian golfing calendar. This new season-long competition is designed to synchronize with the DP World Tour, marking a significant shift in how the sport is organized in the country.

Under the revised format, the champion of the 2026 Order of Merit will be determined following the conclusion of the DP World India Championship, which is scheduled for October. This championship will cap off a series of nine tournaments that comprise the Race, a departure from the previous practice of extending the season until year-end. The inaugural events of this series—the J&K Open, Coal India Open, and Kolar Open—took place in August, with the final tournament, the Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship, set to occur in Greater Noida from September 30 to October 3.

As part of this new structure, the top 24 players at the end of the Race will secure their places in the DP World India Championship. Additionally, the top 60 players on the PGTI Order of Merit will maintain their playing rights for the 2027 season, ensuring a competitive landscape for golfers across the country.

Kapil Dev, president of PGTI, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “The Race to DP World India Championship reflects our shared vision of strengthening the pathway from Indian golf to the global stage. It introduces a season-long contest which will reward consistency, raise the competitive standards throughout the season, and enhance the significance of the DP World India Championship.” This initiative is expected to elevate the profile of Indian golf, providing players with more opportunities to showcase their skills and compete at higher levels.

As the season progresses, the PGTI and DP World aim to foster a more robust golfing environment, ultimately benefiting players and fans alike. The collaboration signifies a commitment to enhancing the sport's stature in India and aligning it with international standards.
