Szocs showcases her talent as Goa Challengers secure third consecutive victory

In a thrilling conclusion to the Ultimate Table Tennis Season-7 match held at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium on Monday, Bernadette Szocs showcased her exceptional skills and resilience. The Romanian star triumphed over Zeng Jian in a nail-biting fifth singles match, securing a 2-1 victory that clinched the tie for the Dempo Goa Challengers against the HVR Kolkata ThunderBlades. This win marked Goa's third consecutive victory in the tournament, with the final score resting at 8-7.

Decisive Moments in the Match

With the overall match score tied at 6-6, Szocs, currently ranked 24th in the world, stepped up under pressure. Her performance was a testament to her reputation as a formidable competitor. Earlier in the day, Alvaro Robles, standing at an impressive 6'2", demonstrated remarkable agility and skill in his opening match against Eduard Ionescu, winning 2-1. Robles' ability to handle low balls and execute rapid exchanges was particularly impressive, showcasing his powerful backhand and spin techniques.

Following Robles' victory, expectations were high for 16-year-old Syndrela Das, who faced Ayhika Mukherjee in the second match. Despite her best efforts, Das struggled against Mukherjee's anti-spin rubber and ultimately lost 1-2. The challenges continued for Goa in the mixed doubles event, where the pairing of Robles and Das fell to Ankur Bhattacharjee and Mukherjee, giving Kolkata a narrow 5-4 lead.

Clutch Performances and Final Victory

The reverse singles match between Abhinandh and Ankur was highly anticipated, dubbed the "Gen-Z battle." Abhinandh emerged victorious in a closely contested match, winning 2-1 and leveling the overall score. This set the stage for Szocs' decisive match against Zeng Jian, where she ultimately proved her mettle by overcoming an initial setback to secure the win. The final match results were as follows: Robles defeated Ionescu 11-8, 9-11, 11-0; Das lost to Mukherjee 9-11, 7-11, 11-4; Robles and Das fell to Bhattacharjee and Mukherjee 9-11, 11-7, 7-11; Abhinandh triumphed over Ankur 11-8, 11-8, 6-11; and Szocs defeated Zeng 5-11, 11-8, 11-7.
