Dhiraj’s triumph came despite a grueling travel schedule that saw him cover nearly 25,000 kilometers in just six days. Following his success in Mexico, he traveled directly to Japan to join the Indian national team’s preparatory camp in Kurobe, arriving on Tuesday to continue his training for the continental event.
Overcoming travel fatigue and challenging conditions
The path to the podium was far from straightforward for the archer. Dhiraj revealed that he had to manage significant physical exhaustion after a 35-hour journey. However, he credited the team’s support staff and physiotherapists for helping him manage his recovery effectively, allowing him to regain his form within a couple of days.
Beyond the physical toll, the Saltillo venue presented unique environmental hurdles. Dhiraj noted that the unusually windy conditions made it difficult to gauge wind direction, a challenge he had to navigate throughout the competition. He attributed his ability to handle these variables to the specific training he had undergone in India, which prepared him to adapt to unpredictable weather patterns.

Reflecting on his performance, Dhiraj described the win as a dream-come-true moment. He emphasized that qualifying for the World Cup Final, which features only the top eight archers in the world, is an achievement in itself, making the gold medal even more meaningful. He believes this success will provide a vital psychological boost as he transitions his focus toward the Asian Games.
Dhiraj remains committed to his long-term technical development, noting that he has been refining his approach over the past two years. He plans to continue working closely with his coaches to integrate new improvements while maintaining the consistency that has brought him success on the global stage.
