Patriots receiver A.J. Brown questionable for Dolphins clash with knee and ankle injuries

New England Patriots wide receiver A.J. Brown is facing a race against time to be fit for Sunday’s divisional road game against the Miami Dolphins. The playmaker has been officially listed as questionable after missing the team's final two practice sessions of the week.

Head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed the status on Friday, noting that the team is continuing to monitor Brown's condition. The receiver’s availability has been hampered by a flare-up in his knee, compounding the recovery process for the right high ankle sprain that previously forced him onto injured reserve following the season opener.

Injury setbacks cloud Patriots receiving corps

Brown’s participation has been inconsistent throughout the week. While he managed to take part in Wednesday’s practice on a limited basis, he was unable to complete the session. Vrabel acknowledged the setback, stating that the medical staff is continuing to treat the receiver as they evaluate his readiness for the upcoming trip to Miami.

Prior to the latest knee issue, Brown had been managing his ankle recovery while attempting to regain his full explosiveness. Despite admitting earlier in the week that he was not yet operating at his peak, the receiver maintained a determined outlook, insisting that he was focused on contributing regardless of his physical limitations. Since being designated to return from injured reserve on October 14, Brown had been heavily involved in the Patriots' offense, logging 102 snaps across games against the New York Jets and the Chicago Bears.

Depth concerns for New England

The uncertainty surrounding Brown leaves the Patriots with limited options at the wide receiver position. Currently, the active 53-man roster features only DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism III as healthy receivers. The team maintains additional depth on the practice squad, including Ryan Miller, Kyle Dixon, Chandler Brayboy, and Cameron Dorner.

When questioned about whether Brown’s heavy workload in recent weeks contributed to his current physical state, Vrabel emphasized the team's desire to field their best players. The coach maintained that the decision-making process regarding Brown’s status remains focused on the immediate goal of securing a divisional victory. The final determination on his availability is expected to be made closer to kickoff on Sunday.
