Oklahoma City Thunder Sign Ochai Agbaji Following Significant Wing Injuries

The Oklahoma City Thunder have moved to bolster their depth by signing forward Ochai Agbaji to fill an open spot on their active roster. The decision comes as the organization deals with a significant personnel crisis following injuries to two key rotation players during Sunday's win over the LA Clippers.

Agbaji, who was selected 14th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, joins the Thunder after being waived by the New York Knicks during their final roster reductions earlier this month. The 26-year-old brings four years of league experience to Oklahoma City, having previously played for the Toronto Raptors and the Brooklyn Nets.

Addressing the Roster Shortfall

The need for reinforcements became immediate after the team confirmed that starting wings Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace sustained major injuries in the same contest against the Clippers. Williams suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated left ankle, while Wallace sustained a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Both players were required to undergo surgery to address their respective injuries. While the team has not officially ruled either player out for the remainder of the season, medical staff anticipate that both recovery processes will span several months.

Agbaji's Professional Background

Throughout his career, Agbaji has appeared in 263 NBA games, earning 108 starts. He holds career averages of 7.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. His arrival provides the Thunder with additional coverage on the wing as they navigate a challenging stretch without two of their primary contributors.
