How 2026 NFL newcomers are using their initial earnings.

As the NFL preseason kicks off, many rookies are experiencing the excitement of their first professional paycheck. For these young athletes, the financial rewards of their hard work often translate into significant purchases and thoughtful investments. While some are eager to splurge on luxury items, others are taking a more cautious approach, focusing on savings and family support.

Rookies Reflect on Their First Paychecks

Among the notable first-round picks, quarterback Sam Love, selected third overall, has made it clear that he intends to live off his endorsement earnings rather than his NFL salary. With a fully guaranteed contract worth $53.9 million over four years, Love has secured deals with major brands like PayPal and New Balance. He stated, "I'm not going to touch the money. I'm probably going to put it all away and live normally like I've been doing now."

Similarly, fifth overall pick, running back Reese, who has a guaranteed $47.8 million contract, expressed a desire to remain frugal. "I don't really got [anything] to buy right now. I already got everything. I got a car and an apartment. So, I'm good right now," he noted. This sentiment of financial prudence is echoed by many of his peers, including linebacker Lawrence, who shared, "I haven't spent really any of that yet. I think like 70% of the players after the NFL go bankrupt or something like that, and I want to be in that 30%."

Investments and Family Support

Several rookies are prioritizing investments and family support over extravagant purchases. Wide receiver Branch, a third-round pick, has already invested a portion of his earnings in the stock market, specifically targeting S&P 500 companies. He aims to create generational wealth, stating, "I'm trying to create generational wealth. So, whatever comes it may come, but right now I think I'm good on the investments and just food, family."

Defensive tackle Price, selected 32nd overall, fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing a new home for his family in Denison, Texas. "Checked that off the list," he said, reflecting on the joy it brought his family. Meanwhile, linebacker Young, the youngest of 11 siblings, has taken it upon himself to support his family financially, contributing to household renovations and helping with monthly expenses.

As these rookies navigate their newfound wealth, many are making thoughtful decisions that reflect their values and aspirations. Whether through investments, family support, or prudent spending, they are setting the stage for a financially secure future.
