A New Opportunity for Levis
Will Levis enters the Jets' facility with a complex professional history. Drafted 33rd overall in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, he was initially viewed as the long-term solution for the Titans. However, his tenure in Tennessee was hampered by inconsistency and turnover issues. Over the course of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Levis compiled a 5-16 record as a starter. His 2024 campaign proved particularly difficult, as he managed only two wins across 12 starts, recording 12 touchdown passes against 13 interceptions, which ultimately led to him being benched by then-head coach Brian Callahan.
The trajectory of his time in Tennessee shifted significantly following a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the previous season. The Titans eventually moved in a different direction, selecting Cam Ward with the first overall pick in the 2025 draft. By the end of the 2026 preseason, the Titans opted to move forward with a depth chart featuring Ward and Mitchell Trubisky, leaving Levis as a free agent.
Reflecting on Past Performance
Despite his recent struggles, Levis has maintained confidence in his ability to compete at the professional level. During the most recent preseason, he completed 21 of 39 passes for 200 yards without throwing a touchdown or an interception. Speaking earlier in the preseason, Levis expressed his belief in his own capabilities, stating that he is confident there are not 32 quarterbacks in the league better than him, citing the tape he has produced during his career as evidence of his potential.
Levis first caught the attention of the Jets' front office during a workout prior to Week 1. Now integrated into the practice squad, he will have the opportunity to work within the Jets' system as he attempts to revitalize his career. For the Jets, the acquisition serves as a low-risk move to evaluate a former high-draft pick who has shown flashes of promise, most notably during his rookie season when he threw eight touchdowns against four interceptions across nine starts.
