Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III is expected to be sidelined for a period due to a groin injury sustained during practice on Saturday, according to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The injury occurred during the final play of the red zone one-on-ones, where Burden became entangled with cornerback Tyrique Stevenson while attempting to catch a pass from quarterback Caleb Williams.

During the incident, Stevenson fell to the ground and appeared to be in considerable pain, requiring assistance from trainers who treated him on the sidelines. Despite the discomfort, Stevenson managed to complete the practice, although he had to withdraw from an 11-on-11 drill. Meanwhile, Burden was seen walking gingerly towards the weight room but did not return to the field after the injury. The Bears have not provided specific details regarding the nature of Burden's injury.

Secondary Depth Tested

The Bears' secondary faced further challenges as safety Cam Lewis also exited practice early, exacerbating an already thin defensive lineup. Lewis, who is stepping in for Coby Bryant, was involved in a play against wide receiver Rome Odunze when he limped off the field. After stretching on the sidelines, he was seen getting into a cart for transport to the training room, although the distance of the practice fields from Halas Hall means that such a ride does not necessarily indicate the severity of an injury.

Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen addressed the situation, confirming that Lewis would not participate in practice on Sunday. While he expressed optimism regarding the nature of Lewis' injury, he did not provide a timeline for the player's return. The Bears are now left to navigate these injuries as they prepare for upcoming challenges in the season.
