When questioned about whether he anticipates Donald taking the field this Thursday following the defensive tackle's recent decision to come out of retirement, the 49ers coach was unequivocal. "Oh yeah, definitely," Shanahan replied. He further noted that he had mentally prepared for the possibility of Donald’s return weeks before the official announcement was made, acknowledging the significant challenge the veteran presents to his offensive game plan.

Shanahan recalled the stark contrast in reactions within the 49ers facility between March 2024, when Donald first announced his retirement, and his recent return. San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey echoed his coach's respect for the defensive standout, noting that Donald remains a primary focus during scouting preparations. "He's a force, man," McCaffrey said. "He's such a good player. Has been his entire career. When you're going through the scouting report, you gotta know where he is."
