The Jaguars are currently navigating a complex logistical period as they prepare for the extensive redevelopment of their home venue. With construction at EverBank Stadium ongoing, the team is slated to play its home games during the 2027 season at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The renovated facility, which the organization has branded the Stadium of the Future, is expected to be fully operational in time for the 2028 campaign.
Clarifying the 2027 International Schedule
Lamping explained that the provision to play three international games in 2027 was originally included as a contingency measure. At the time the agreement was negotiated, the team had not yet finalized its temporary home venue, leaving open the possibility of playing in Gainesville or Orlando. The flexibility to move games internationally was intended to mitigate potential scheduling conflicts that might have arisen depending on the chosen location.
Reflecting on the current outlook, Lamping noted that the likelihood of scheduling three international home games in 2027 remains remote. The franchise has a long-standing history of international participation, having played 15 games in London since 2013, with the exception of the 2020 season due to the pandemic. These appearances have been split between Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Future Scheduling and League Requirements
Looking ahead to the 2028 season, Lamping expressed a desire for the team to play every home game in Jacksonville to celebrate the opening of the renovated stadium. However, he acknowledged that the final decision rests with the NFL. The league currently mandates that every team must relinquish one home game every four years for an international fixture, a policy that could be subject to change if the NFL moves toward an 18-game regular season schedule.
The Jaguars have maintained a significant presence in the UK, including a three-year contract initiated in 2022 to oversee operations for an annual home game at Wembley. This arrangement allows the team to retain full revenue from the match, with officials previously noting that ticket income from these games can be significantly higher than at EverBank Stadium. As the team continues its international commitments, the focus remains on balancing these global obligations with the transition to their modernized home facility.
