Green Bay Packers GM Brian Gutekunst Addresses Josh Jacobs Legal Situation

Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst has confirmed that the organization has not yet viewed the surveillance footage central to the criminal case involving running back Josh Jacobs. The player was recently placed on the NFL's commissioner exempt list following formal charges filed by the Brown County District Attorney last Thursday.

Jacobs faces two misdemeanor charges, specifically battery and criminal damage to property, stemming from an alleged incident on May 23 at his residence in the Green Bay area. According to the criminal complaint, an individual attempting to leave the player's garage was allegedly grabbed and thrown to the ground, resulting in a head injury. While the complaint notes that surveillance footage from the garage area corroborates parts of the woman's statement, the team remains without access to this evidence.

Despite his placement on the commissioner exempt list, which prohibits him from practicing or playing in games, Jacobs is permitted to remain at the team facility for other activities. Head coach Matt LaFleur expressed personal support for the running back, noting that he intends to trust his player until evidence suggests otherwise. Looking ahead, Gutekunst expressed optimism regarding Jacobs' potential to return to the field this season, though he acknowledged that the team is preparing for various outcomes.

In the interim, the Packers have adjusted their backfield depth. The current roster includes running backs MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks, alongside Kaleb Johnson, who was recently acquired via a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers. Additionally, the team has added Pierre Strong Jr. to the practice squad to maintain depth during the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the position.
