Trade and Expectations
The Eagles acquired the 29-year-old Greenard from the Minnesota Vikings during the draft weekend in April, a move that involved sending two third-round draft picks to Minnesota. In addition to the trade, Greenard signed a substantial four-year contract extension worth $100 million, which includes $50 million guaranteed. This investment reflects the team's high expectations for Greenard, who is anticipated to take on a starting role in a defense aiming for a Super Bowl run.
In Greenard's absence, the Eagles' linebacker corps will rely on players such as Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith Jr., AJ Epenesa, and Arnold Ebiketie. Hunt, in particular, has been noted for his impressive performance throughout the summer. Greenard's track record includes three sacks in 12 games last season, following two consecutive seasons with double-digit sack totals while with the Vikings.
