Bengals Tight End Tanner Hudson Out for Season Following Pectoral Injury

The Cincinnati Bengals have suffered a significant blow to their offensive depth, with tight end Tanner Hudson ruled out for the remainder of the season. The veteran player sustained a torn pectoral muscle during the team's 31-24 road victory against the Miami Dolphins in Week 5.

The injury occurred while Hudson was contributing on special teams coverage. Despite the unfortunate conclusion to his afternoon, Hudson had been a productive presence in the Bengals' passing attack earlier in the contest, recording three receptions for 14 yards and securing a touchdown. Following the game, head coach Zac Taylor lauded the tight end's reliability, describing him as a player who consistently performs regardless of his status on the practice squad or active roster.

Impact on Bengals Roster and Depth

The loss of the 31-year-old creates a void in Cincinnati's tight end rotation. Hudson, who is in his eighth NFL season and has spent the last four years with the Bengals, had recently been promoted to the active roster on September 29. His elevation followed a series of roster moves, including the placement of cornerback Jalen Davis on injured reserve.

Throughout his tenure in Cincinnati, Hudson has appeared in 42 games, accumulating 84 receptions for 707 yards and five touchdowns. His journey this season began on the practice squad after he was initially released during the final roster cuts, before working his way back into the team's plans.

Looking Ahead at the Tight End Position

With Hudson sidelined for the year, the Bengals will need to rely on their remaining depth at the position. The current roster options include Erick All Jr. and rookie Jack Endries. Endries, a seventh-round selection in this year's draft, has seen limited action, having been inactive for three of the team's first five games this season.

Coach Taylor confirmed the injury on Monday, noting that the organization was in the process of gathering further medical information before finalizing the move to place Hudson on injured reserve. The team now turns its attention to adjusting its personnel strategy to compensate for the absence of a player who had become a trusted target within the offense.
