Yuvraj Singh Appointed as Delhi Capitals Assistant and Batting Coach

Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh has officially transitioned into the coaching ranks, joining the Delhi Capitals as their new Assistant and Batting Coach. The announcement, confirmed by the JSW and GMR co-owned franchise on Tuesday, marks the 44-year-old's first formal coaching appointment since his retirement from professional cricket.

This move signals a homecoming for the former all-rounder, who previously represented the franchise during the 2015 season when they were known as the Delhi Daredevils. During that campaign, Yuvraj featured in all 14 matches for the team, having been signed for a then-record fee of Rs 16 crore.

A New Chapter in the IPL

The Delhi Capitals leadership expressed significant enthusiasm regarding the appointment. Parth Jindal, chairman and co-owner of the franchise, lauded Yuvraj’s track record as a match-winner and his established history of mentoring young talent. Jindal noted that the former cricketer’s winning mindset and ability to connect with players would be a vital asset to the current squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Kiran Kumar Grandhi, co-owner and founder of GMR Sports, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that Yuvraj’s deep understanding of the game and competitive spirit make him an ideal addition to the coaching staff. The franchise expects his presence to have a meaningful impact on the team's performance and overall campaign strategy.

Reuniting with Sourav Ganguly

For Yuvraj, the role offers a chance to work closely with former India captain Sourav Ganguly. The veteran all-rounder expressed his excitement about the new challenge, highlighting his existing relationship with the franchise owners as a key factor in his decision to join the setup. He noted that he is eager to collaborate with Ganguly in a coaching capacity, shifting from their previous dynamic as player and captain.

Yuvraj brings a wealth of experience to the role, having played 132 IPL matches, during which he accumulated 2,750 runs and took 36 wickets. His career is defined by his pivotal contributions to India’s major international successes, including the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Throughout his playing days, he was widely regarded for his explosive batting style and his ability to influence the outcome of high-stakes matches. As he embarks on this new phase of his career, the franchise looks forward to his contributions to the team's development and future success.
