New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson is expected to be sidelined for several weeks after sustaining a high ankle sprain during the team's recent victory against the Las Vegas Raiders. Sources have confirmed that while the injury will keep the second-year player out of action for the immediate future, he is not expected to require surgery, and the organization is optimistic about a return in the near term.

The injury occurred during the second quarter of Sunday's game. Following an 11-yard carry, Henderson was brought down near the sideline by Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn and was seen limping immediately after the play. This setback marks the second time this season that Henderson has dealt with an ankle issue, having already missed the Patriots' season opener last month.

Impact on the Patriots backfield

In the wake of Henderson's departure from Sunday's contest, the Patriots relied on Corey Kiner to support starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson. Kiner recorded 52 yards on six carries, though he also lost a fumble during the game. Stevenson remained the focal point of the ground attack, finishing with 64 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

As the team prepares for their upcoming matchup against the New York Jets, the Patriots are reportedly looking to bolster their depth at the position. It is expected that Lan Larison will be elevated from the practice squad to provide an additional option in the backfield. Larison, an undrafted free agent out of UC-Davis who joined the team in 2025, previously saw action in the 2026 season opener when Henderson was also unavailable. During that appearance, Larison logged three offensive snaps and recorded two receptions for nine yards, alongside six snaps on special teams.

Through four games this season, Henderson has accumulated 163 rushing yards and one touchdown on 42 carries. The Patriots currently hold a 3-2 record as they head into their next game against the 2-3 Jets.
