Carolina Panthers Rule Out Four Players for Thursday Night Clash Against Packers

The Carolina Panthers have confirmed their final injury report ahead of Thursday night's primetime showdown against the Green Bay Packers, with four players officially ruled out for the contest at Lambeau Field. The list of unavailable personnel includes starting outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips and left guard Damien Lewis, both of whom were unable to participate in practice throughout the week.

Joining Phillips and Lewis on the sidelines are cornerback Akayleb Evans and backup guard Torricelli Simpkins III. All four players sustained their respective injuries during the team's recent home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the exception of Phillips, who is set to miss his second consecutive game after aggravating a hamstring injury originally sustained in a Week 6 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Managing Personnel Shortages and Roster Depth

The absence of Phillips forces the Panthers to rely on a rotation at the outside linebacker position opposite Patrick Jones II. The team plans to utilize a committee approach featuring veteran Trevis Gipson, 2025 third-round selection Princely Umanmielen, and Nick Hampton, who was recently elevated to the 53-man roster. Meanwhile, the vacancy at left guard remains a point of tactical adjustment for head coach Dave Canales, who indicated that Corey Bullock is a primary candidate to step in, though journeyman Jake Curhan remains an alternative option from the practice squad.

The secondary also faces significant pressure, as the team deals with the ongoing absences of starters Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, who have been on injured reserve since Week 4. With Evans also ruled out, the Panthers are left with Will Lee III and Chau Smith-Wade as the only healthy cornerbacks on the active roster. Canales noted that the team is evaluating practice-squad elevations, specifically highlighting the physical profile of Corey Thornton and the athletic versatility of Marco Wilson as potential solutions to bolster the defensive backfield.

Defensive Line Status and Packers Injury Report

While the Panthers have confirmed four absences, the status of starting defensive lineman Bobby Brown III remains uncertain, as he is officially listed as questionable. Should Brown be unable to suit up, TeRah Edwards is expected to rejoin the game-day rotation alongside Derrick Brown, Lee Hunter, Turk Wharton, and Aaron Hall. Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald, who appeared on the injury report Tuesday due to an illness, carries no injury designation for the game.

The Green Bay Packers enter the matchup with their own injury concerns. The hosts have ruled out center Sean Rhyan, guard Travis Glover, and linebacker Zaire Franklin. Additionally, wide receiver Matthew Golden and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt are listed as questionable for the Week 8 encounter.
