A recruitment document prepared for the Las Vegas Raiders has been unsealed as part of
The unsealed document, which outlines perceived strengths and weaknesses of Flores, has intensified the legal battle between the current Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator and the league. Flores originally filed his lawsuit in February 2022, alleging systemic racism within NFL hiring practices, and has since been joined in the action by coaches Steve Wilks and Ray Horton.
Legal Team Claims Stereotyping and Retaliation
Attorneys representing Flores have condemned the contents of the
Michael Willemin, another attorney for Flores, specifically pointed to the report's description of the coach as having "polish upwards" as a racial stereotype that serves to diminish his intelligence. Willemin further argued that the overall tone of the report portrays Flores as an "angry Black man." Additionally, the legal team identified a note in the document regarding "ongoing litigation" as evidence of potential leaguewide retaliation against Flores for his decision to challenge the league's hiring practices.
Specific Allegations Within the Recruitment Memo
The Korn Ferry memo included a "Strengths and Weaknesses" section that has become central to the current dispute. Under strengths, the report noted that Flores was "polished and a good presenter despite growing up in Brownsville, Brooklyn," and credited his ability to build relationships with "white-collar and upper-class individuals" to his association with a billionaire's son.
The weaknesses section contained several critical assessments, including claims that Flores lacked self-awareness, exhibited erratic behavior, and acted as a "dictator" with staff and players. The report also referenced comments made by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who played under Flores at the Miami Dolphins from 2020 to 2021. Tagovailoa had previously described Flores as a "terrible person" in 2024, stating that his confidence was shattered during their time together. Flores responded to those comments in August 2024 by stating he had spent time reflecting on the situation and communication.
The memo further suggested that Flores required "someone strong at the top" to manage his behavior and included anonymous claims from executives regarding his past performance. Flores, who interviewed with the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, and Houston Texans before filing his lawsuit, continues to pursue his case against the league and the named teams.
