LAKE FOREST, Ill. – During a training camp session on Saturday, Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III left the field prematurely due to a suspected lower body injury. The incident occurred during the final play of the red zone one-on-ones, where Burden became entangled with cornerback Tyrique Stevenson while attempting to catch a pass from quarterback Caleb Williams. The collision resulted in Stevenson landing awkwardly on his back, prompting him to remain on the ground for several moments, visibly in distress.

After receiving assistance from trainers, Stevenson was treated on the sidelines, where a staff member applied ointment to the lower right side of his back. Despite the discomfort, he managed to continue participating in practice, although he had to withdraw from an 11-on-11 drill. Meanwhile, Burden was seen walking gingerly towards the weight room, opting not to return to practice following the incident.

Secondary Depth Tested

In addition to Burden's exit, safety Cam Lewis also departed early from the session, further straining the Bears' already thin secondary. Lewis, who is stepping in for Coby Bryant, was engaged in coverage against wide receiver Rome Odunze during the red zone drills when he limped off the field after the play. Rookie Skyler Thomas took over his position as the team wrapped up practice with end-of-half scenarios.

After stretching on the sidelines, Lewis made his way to a cart, which transported him to the training room. It is worth noting that the Bears conducted their practice on fields located far from Halas Hall, making the use of a cart not necessarily indicative of the severity of an injury.

Injury Updates

The Bears were also missing defensive end Montez Sweat and left tackle Braxton Jones, both of whom sustained injuries during Thursday's practice. However, reports suggest that neither player is expected to face a long-term absence due to their respective injuries. As the team navigates these challenges, the focus will be on recovery and preparation for the upcoming season.
